In the 1990s as part of the main Helsinki public transport development plan an idea was born to build the City Rail Loop - a tunnel for commuter trains running between Pasila and Helsinki centre. The Loop would run through Töölö, the City Centre and Hakaniemi, before returning to Pasila to continue their journeys north and west.

Sipti Ground Engineering Consultancy Group was chosen as the Structural Designer for the most demanding section of the project, the City Centre section. The planning job will include the station itself, approximately two kilometers of the main tunnel and service tunnel plus the underground parts and service tunnels for around ten entrances. The rock work is not part of Sipti’s responsibility.
